What is a SPAC? It's a Special-Purpose Acquisition Company. What does that mean? I honestly couldn't tell you. But what I can tell you is that they need websites to present potential investors with information about their leadership, their sponsors, documents, and any related news. At the heart of it, these sites are relatively simple and all similar, but the challenge comes in giving one its own identity, and that was what Colin Kaepernick (yes, that Colin) and Jahm Najafi needed. The request was for a new site with a clean and minimalist design that fit in line with the existing Najafi Companies site, but could be a new brand in the form of Mission Advancement Corp, and most importantly, reflect the leadership team.

Solution

Given the minimal amount of content on the site, the architecture was kept quite simple and similar to other SPAC websites in order to keep it intuitive for investors who jump from SPAC to SPAC. Layered over that architecture came a whole brand design, starting with a new logo designed to reflect the "advancement" part of the name, and the desire to stick to a black and white color palette, punctuated with 49ers red. Simplicity doesn't mean things can't be elegant, and at the end of the day, the site came together to be an elegant platform for investors to learn about Colin and Jahm, as well as news and information about their SPAC.

While I may not be able to repeat the full definition of what a SPAC is from memory, or say that this was my most ambitious project ever, I was able to work with someone I respected and also help build a brand identity for them, which is an opportunity that doesn't come along every day.
