"When the government doesn't take legal action, NELC does". It's a bold statement that required a bold presentation to go with it. Prior to our involvement with the NELC, their legal website was not "with the times" as the kids say. It needed an updated content management system, user experience, and a design to make a repository of anti-pollution defenders seem modern and on the cutting edge. Seeing as how important the environment is, we were happy to step in and help.
We needed to update the architecture for the site to handle various cases across NELC's top issues. We ended up treating their site in a similar manner to a news website, with the issues being the highest level of categorization, grouping together different cases and related content. From there, each case could collect documents and media related to it, becoming a one-to shop for up to date information about the NELC's continuing fight against pollution.
The corresponding design needed to be fresh and responsive, and more importantly, speak to their reverence for the environment. We bathed the site in a variety of greens to both represent nature itself, but to also give a feeling of calm. Often, when talking about the environment, especially when it comes to legal matters, the messaging can be stressful and at times dire, but we wanted to express hope and a positive energy behind what the NELC is doing.
They had already had a logo designed, but we borrowed elements from it to be used in small ways around the site, like the birds flying in the footer and embedding the foreground right into the navigation itself. This helped differentiate the NELC's website from other legal sites, and especially from their past selves.
It was important for them to appear as modern and up to date as possible amidst the rapidly changing landscape of protecting the environment, and I feel that we accomplished that.
